Join Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County for our second annual VIRTUAL 5K fun run/roll/stroll to raise money to continue building homes for hardworking families in need.
Everyone deserves to feel safe at home. And everyone deserves a decent, affordable place to call home.
For many families, those who were already struggling with a need for decent and affordable housing, their daily lives have only become more challenging. Our rental assistance program has so far saved over 800 people from eviction, with roughly 20 more applications for help arriving each week. For others, those who find themselves affected by the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the future is newly uncertain. People are paying half or more of their incomes on rent, with no ability to save for future emergencies. Having a safe, affordable home is more important than ever.
It has been a tough year for us all, and many of our plans have been altered or canceled. This is an opportunity to raise funds for hardworking, deserving families in need while having some much-needed fun. So head out and walk, run, or roll, and if you're feeling extra "spirited", wear your Halloween costume!
For this fundraising event, you can participate on your own time, and on the course of your choice. This event can be completed indoors on a treadmill, or outside on a sidewalk, trail, or track, anytime between Monday, September 27 and Sunday, October 31. This 5K can also be split up into multiple days.
All ages, abilities, and fitness levels are encouraged to participate. Gather your friends, family, and co-workers and see how many people you can get to be on YOUR team! We will call out the teams with the highest members on our Facebook page, as well as post shared images of your Halloween costumes so like/follow us if you don't already.
The team with the highest participant count will receive special medals!
We would love everyone to share their photos on social media and tag us on Facebook (@wicomicohabitat) and Instagram (@wicomico_habitat)! Once you complete the virtual race, you can submit your time via email at support@wicomicohabitat.org (this is optional as this is not a competitive race).
There is NO registration deadline! You can register and complete the fun run/walk/roll by Sunday, October 31st.
Costs vary depending on whether you would like to receive a commemorative tee or not. We even have an option for teams to compete together--see if you can have the most people on your team. All you need to do is create a team name and tell your friends to scroll all the way to the bottom of their registration form and input that team name when they register.
